Blog 6: Teacher Pages & Technology

For this post, I researched for a teachers page on a school website that I related to as far as the design and information provided. I successfully found a webpage that was detailed and informing. The teachers name is Melissa Haney (Mrs. Haney) and she is a second grade educator at Amelia Earhart Elementary School. I immediately gravitated toward her page because it was neat and precise yet it included valuable information for students and parents to access. The first thing I noticed underneath her welcome letter were important forms for parents to fill out. I appreciated this because many times students lose their "take home letters" for their parents to fill out. By posting the forms on her website, parents can easily print another copy for themselves at home. Underneath the forms, she posted important files that were neatly separated. For example she has a tab for: daily schedule, important information, educational apps, class projects, lesson plans, FAQ's and class wishlist. This is one of the most thoughtful and detailed class pages I have ever seen! I was very impressed. LINK: https://earhart.goddardusd.com/49583_3

In my classroom, I envision using technology to enhance my students learning experience. Sometimes, its easy as an educator or potential educator to become discouraged when it comes to expensive technology and its use in the classroom. Many schools have a strict budget on what they can and can't spend money on when it comes to classroom necessities. However, I think as a teacher you have to know what to place certain priority on. For example, I think the use of any technology in the classroom is beneficial even if you have a smart board in your classroom.  I see myself using a smart board and hopefully laptops. While the new and coming technology is very cool, it is important to be realistic and make that a goal you work toward instead of it being something you acquire right away.

This past Tuesday, I spent a class period in the Technology Sandbox located in the Education building. I was immediately blown away at the technology that I wasn't even aware of. I was even more blown away that some of these technology products were already being used in classrooms. While I did not have my phone on me as I was learning about the different technologies, my absolute favorite technology was the virtual reality. This was my first experience in participating in a virtual reality and it was one I will always remember! Virtual reality could be used in a classroom to engage the students and encourage them to exercise their creative side. The second technology I found intriguing were the 3D drawing pens and printer. As we were given a tour of the drawing pens, I made a comment that this activity would be very beneficial for students who have special needs or like to express themselves through art!

  1. Mrs. Haney's page looks colorful and appealing which is great since she teaches second graders. It also seems very thorough with information which is important since her second graders probably rely on their parent for a great deal of things, and their parents need to know what's going on so they know what to tell kids to do. I think this is a good example of a class page, great find Aubrey!

  2. I really like the page you found! She set up her class website really well. I too think it's important to be realistic about the future. With technology, things are always changing. Really, anything is better than nothing!

  3. Hi Aubrey! Mrs. Haney's page is SO CUTE! I absolutely love how she's made it accessible for her kids-- the theme is really fitting. I also liked that you mentioned that you think technology should be something you work towards. It's a little unrealistic to expect the school you'd be working in to have all of that technology immediately available to you.

  4. I loved reading your post as I related a lot to it and the appeal that comes from looking at a detailed and colorful page. I appreciated that you included the part where budgeting may affect the technology being utilized with in classrooms but I completely agree that even one technological application can make all the difference in a classroom.

  5. Great post! I think when it comes to a classroom budget a teacher really needs to focus on what they need to help the students learn as much as they can, and a lot of the technology in the Tech Sandbox could be great for that.
